Bone contusion

A bone contusion is an injury resulting from direct or indirect trauma without an apparent fracture. It is characterized by microscopic damage to bone tissue and the periosteum. It causes pain, tenderness, and sometimes swelling in the affected area. It is not associated with instability or disruption of bone continuity. Treatment is usually conservative, involving rest and reduced load.
