8. Lumbar Spinal Nerve Analgesia (LSPA)

Lumbar spinal nerve analgesia is a minimally invasive technique involving injection of a local anesthetic, with or without corticosteroid, near the nerve responsible for pain in the lower back or leg.

Technical procedure

The technique involves injection of a local anesthetic, with or without corticosteroid, close to the affected nerve, aiming to reduce inflammation and relieve irritated neural structures.

Therapeutic goal

• Desensitization of neural structures

• Pain relief

• Facilitation of safe mobilization and rehabilitation without inducing complete anesthesia

Indications

• Acute or chronic lumbar pain syndromes

• Sciatica

• L2, L3, L4, L5 and S1 lumbar radiculopathy

• Herniated intervertebral disc

• Spinal stenosis

• Degenerative spine diseases

Benefits

• Immediate pain relief

• Improved mobility and quality of life

• Safe technique

Clinical approach

In most cases, the procedure is performed using anatomical landmarks or ultrasound guidance. In rare cases, fluoroscopic guidance may be required.
